Mouth sores opening up
For the first time I have noticed the sores on my mouth opening up as it happens. I first noticed yesterday the tingling, almost burning sensation in the corners of my mouth that comes with eating fruit and/or acidic juicy foods when these sores (or rather, perhaps, the slightly broken skin) are opening up. Yesterday it was not yet complete, but today it has certainly worsened. Catching it as it occurs allows me, to some degree, to look at what I have been eating and to try and track back anything that has changed that might have led to these sores, which I am told, indicate vitamin B deficiency.Well, one thing it’s not is vitamin B supplementation, because I have been taking that consistently from the same bottle for some time now. Indeed, the only thing that has changed about my vitamin regimen is the addition of Zinc capsules (with, I think added A and C). This goes back perhaps a week and a half, two weeks now (I can picture the number of holes in the bubble pack), but it is new enough that it may have had some effect.
My diet, otherwise has been pretty steady except for one or two additions.
I have had a lot of curry over the last few days having taken out a couple of batches of a curry I made a few weeks back from the freezer and warming it up in a bain marie (to avoid the possible nutrient depleting effects of a microwave) and also, the first time, to utilise the convenience of warming the stuff up over the rice as it cooks - I use a stainless steel mixing bowl which cost all of two or three quid at T K Max over a saucepan, with a plate over the top to serve on to which is then warmed in its turn. Curry, of course, is said to exacerbate leaky gut syndrome.
Today for breakfast and lunch I had a banana liquidised with nuts (first brazil nuts and then pumpkin seeds with pine nuts) and rice milk. It was a breakfast from a gluten free, casein free cookbook by Nicola Graimes and I enjoyed it and found that I didn’t miss my usual big breakfast. I had it because yesterday I took forever to warm up for the day and get up to my study, something I am trying to do even if I am tired so that I can do, if nothing else, admin work on the site or my computer, or at least to focus myself for the day rather than ending up turning the TV on or something. I found that despite being tired from working late last night and having a couple of fags, I was working ok in the morning. And so, not wanting to stop, and feeling like I was actually less hungry from that breakfast than I would have been if I had had my usual masses of millet and two boiled eggs or some such, I had the same for lunch.
Also today, though, I had three cups of tea with rice milk!
Of course, the smoking could be a factor, but I have had these sores intermittently for most of my life and haven’t smoked all my life, and besides, did not have these sores for most of the time I have been smoking a little more heavily and consistently than recently, when I have if anything cut down.
Since the bananas were not a factor before today, I am favouring the curry as being the best explanation this time, but then, of course, I’m aware that this is hardly scientific. What I hope is that I will be able to notice again sometime if these sores come up.
